Having good and tasty recipes. Good for food lovers

I used to subscribe to this magazine, and bought a few of their cookbooks. I love comfort food a lot. I have moved away from most of the recipes, because I don't use canned soups etc. There are some true "from scratch" recipes to be found, but I gravitate more towards Fine Cooking or Cook's Illustrated these days. Great beginner level recipes, though. I used to subscribe to this magazine, and bought a few of their cookbooks. I love comfort food a lot. I love this cookbook. It is one that I have had for awhile now and I constantly check it for recipes. Taste of Home offers some great recipes for all kinds of palettes. The spiral bound in the book is fantastic. It makes it so easy to use.

I made a pear bread out of this book, and was not impressed. I will continue to try other recipes, but will trust my instincts, which said it needed more flavor and that the pans were too full!

I decided to put cookbooks on my list because I think it's one of the harder things to get recommendations for - plus, I love to cook - so would encourage my other friends to do the same. Taste of Home is actually a magazine where readers send in their recipes, which are then judged, and the best ones are printed up and shipped out. The cookbook is a collection of both the basic recipes everyone needs (i.e. hard-boiled egg, mashed potatoes, etc.) and then the super delicious home-formulated recipes from the magazine. There is a section of the book called "Light and Tasty", which I believe is from the low-cal version of the Taste of Home magazine called "Light and Tasty" but it's only a small section compared to the rest of the book. This is GREAT for entertaining and contains the best recipe for cranberry scones I've ever used. I also like that the recipes are organized by ingredient, alphabetically (i.e. in the vegetable section, recipes featuring brussel sprouts are before recipes featuring carrots). HIGHLY recommended for hard-core cookers who like to impress people with their culinary skills. A lot of the recipes are also fairly easy to make and there aren't many with too exotic ingredients.

This actually isn't a review of the cookbook, though I'm sure it's a good one.I love the Taste of Home family of magazines and just discovered our library has them. I'm going to use this entry to keep track of the ones I've read (and subscribed to) so far. If you enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, you need to read these magazines - great resource.Healthy Cooking (previously was Light & Tasty)April 2008 - May 2009Light & Tasty (was renamed to Healthy Cooking)Feb/Mar 2007June 2007 - Jan 2008Sim This actually isn't a review of the cookbook, though I'm sure it's a good one.I love the Taste of Home family of magazines and just discovered our library has them. Excellent cookbook for the intermediate learner--those looking to build their home kitchen and start substitutions in a pinch. An especially helpful resource for me was the explanation of each ingredient in a basic bread recipe--what each ingredient does and why it's important.Inside front cover has amount conversions--how many graham crackers to a half cup, for example; inside back cover has basic substitutions.Easy recipes that aren't bland, dull, or too simple to inspire. This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever read......I will try at least a dozen of the recipes in this book....some of the deserts are over the top fattening with over 500 calories per serving......so of course I will need to pass them up....but some(even main course) are lighted up and look and sound great. Clear concise directions with many photos. Includes calorie, fat, sugar etc counts.

I like Taste of Home's cookbooks. They always feature a wide variety of recipes that are easy to follow. Granted, I don't always follow recipes to a tee, as I often like to 'improvise' and attempt to make them more to my families' tastes, but I do often consult cookbooks for ideas or to find recipes that we may like. I do enjoy trying new foods as well. I would recommend Taste of Home's books to both new and seasoned cooks. I like Taste of Home's cookbooks. I got this cookbook from my dad for Christmas quite a few years ago. He is an avid cooker, who loves to see the looks on people's faces when they try one of his new recipes. This book has made me become my dad when it comes to food. It has so many wonderful recipes that I want to try everything. I have made more items from this particular cookbook than from any other.
